Flexible working means 'healthier' employees

Employees who work flexible hours enjoy better physical and mental health, it has been claimed.

Researchers at the Cochrane Library, which assesses published studies, have produced a report arguing that staff who have a degree of control over the way they work tend to be in better physical condition.

The review took in ten separate studies covering some 16,000 employees.

As well as improved blood pressure and heart rates, employees on flexible working patterns also appeared to have better mental health too.

As from April of last year, working parents with children aged under 16 have had the right to ask for more flexible hours.

Some 10 million parents can now ask their employers for a variety of flexible working arrangements such as flexi-time and home working.
